Do you know where you’ll be ten years from now? What about one year from now…or even one day from now? Life is beautiful in this way; the uncertainty and mystery that the future provides. When we’re young, especially, we don’t think about how little decisions that we make every day can shape our future. We do what we want, when we want. We do what makes us happy, without any regard for the long term effect. When you’re young and don’t know any better, you have this luxury. But when you get older, it’s interesting to look back on all you did and how it lead you to where you are now.

I’m sure when Kara Wolters began her collegiate career at UCONN, she had no idea that she would be an NCAA champion, an Olympic Gold Medalist or that she was joining a family, the effects of which she would see even 20 years later.

Kara and her head coach Geno Auriemma experienced much success together during the 1993-1997 seasons. And while still leading the Huskies to victory on the court, Geno is venturing into new territory and has recently released his own line of wine. Geno has enlisted the help of some of his former stars, like Kara, to help with this new endeavor and much the way family would, she was happy to do it.

Kara thrilled our small Connecticut community when she appeared at Harry’s Wine & Liquor to talk wine, basketball, pose for pictures, sign bottles and meet fans of all ages. Young basketball-hopefuls especially had the meet- and-greet of a lifetime when they got to speak with the UCONN record-holder.

Now retired, Kara has the wonderful opportunity to give back to the game that shaped her life and the communities that supported her. By staying in touch with her UCONN family and embracing her past, she is able to help guide others to a productive future, whether it be in basketball, the wine business, or life in general.

So give a second thought to what you do now and where your life is headed, because you never know where you may end up.
